ADHD is not laziness it never was

Website adhdunitenetwork.org A lot of people think ADHD is just about being distracted or not trying hard enough, but that is not true. ADHD affects executive function β€” the part of the brain that helps with starting tasks, organising steps, remembering what comes next, managing time, regulating emotions and staying consistent. That means simple everyday things can still feel hard: Brushing teeth Replying to messages Tidying up Getting ready on time Starting homework Finishing jobs Keeping routines going The task itself might not always be difficult. The hard part is starting it, sequencing it, sticking with it, and doing it again tomorrow. That is why shame does not work. Telling someone with ADHD to β€œjust try harder” is not support. It is lazy thinking. What helps is structure, reminders, body-doubling, emotional regulation, encouragement, routine, accountability and understanding. At The Blueprint 12 ADHD Support & Skills C.I.C, we are here to replace shame with support, education and real lived-experience understanding. Because once people understand the ADHD brain, they stop blaming themselves β€” and start building systems that actually work. ADHD is not a character flaw. It is a different nervous system that needs the right support.

General Advice

Transport Assistance Grant

Does anyone know how I can appeal being rejected for a transport assistance grant due to living less than 3 miles from the school, when my child was initially offered transport but I rejected the offer as I didn't think he would cope with the transition to the bus and the noise of the other children, and we live so close by. I also hoped he would become capable of walking to school safely in time, but 2 years later we still have to drive the short distance as he can't be trusted around busy roads not to be impulsive and jump out when there are cars coming. Also, the transition from home to school is difficult for him so it would hard to keep him on time and regulated for the time it would take to walk him there. This means we use the car, costing fuel and wear and tear that we wouldn't need to incur if we could walk him or if we thought he could cope on a minibus that was originally offered.

Help Needed

EHCP STRUGGLES

My son is 15 now and ive been refused an EHCP a yr or 2 ago as school deemed him not to require 1 but since then my sons grafe have declined he is struggling in most core subjects and no matter how many times ive told the school/senco he works best off paper format, they have NEVER put it into his IEP. Also his IEP isn't implemented in class AT ALL hes being screamed at by teachers because he didn't know the answers and after having his hand up for so long and gettin no help he gave up and just sat there. That is not my sons fault!! The school need to give him more support and 121 help in class with the work but DO NOT apply it at all. Sorry he is suspended autistic and HIGHLY masks constantly, we r awaiting panel outcome. I feel he needs the EHCP as he struggles with the way the school work and they just keep refusing to help hin work his way. He needs constant support through out the lesson. He is very literal and so questions alot if he doesn't understand but then he's being punished for this!? Also since having his IEP start of Yr8 he's never been given and access arrangements for exams etc which he is fully entitled to! Ive only just learnt of this recently and questioned school about it, to get a Oops sorry he must of just slipped off the radar πŸ€¨πŸ€” I believe the school r goin to lie to EHCP ppl when they contact about my son and I dont know what to do or how best to deal with this?? Is there anyrhing I can do? His GCSE's r coming up and he is VERY capable if given the support, I just want him get the right support he needs n same chance as every1 else. Does any1 have any help/advise for me plz πŸ™πŸ» And I am intouch with IASS they ain't been much help really
